Prerequisite: Teacher Recommendation or permission of Department Head

The results of standardized local assessments, statewide (MCAS) testing, and teacher recommendation are used as a basis for placing students in this course.   This course is designed to target key areas outlined in the Massachusetts State Frameworks to give students the support necessary to be successful in Integrated Math 2 through extra time on concepts, revisiting prior concepts, and pre-teaching.   This course is taken concurrently with Integrated Math 2.

Integrated Math 2: Algebra, Geometry, Probability and Statistics (362)
Credits: 4
Prerequisite: A minimum grade of C- in Algebra 8 or taking Math Elective 2 concurrently or permission  of Department Head

Units examine  and connect topics in these areas:  Algebra, Geometry, and Probability and Statistics.  Students will also investigate a number of long-term non-routine problems.  Algebra topics include graphical and algebraic reasoning to solve a variety of optimization problems, quadratic functions, graphs and equations.   Geometry topics include congruence and similarity in terms of transformations and constructions.  Students will develop their spatial reasoning and problem solving through area, volume and trigonometry.  Topics in Probability and Statistics will  include normal distribution as a model for certain types of data, developing the  concept of data spread especially standard deviation  and applying it to problems in context, and making predictions based on curve fitting.  Next Course: Integrated Math 3 or Math Elective 3H and Integrated Math 3H
