Chemistry 234B 4 Credits

Open to students in grades: 11, 12

Prerequisites: Successful completion of Algebra I or IMP I; Geometry or IMP II recommended

Chemistry provides a basis for further study after high school. Topics include atomic structure, the mole, periodic table, states of matter, solutions and chemical bonding. The course emphasizes chemical principles. Students will learn to apply mathematical skills of spatial and abstract thinking to form concepts of volume and density and the arrangement of molecules in space. They will apply algebraic methods in solving chemical equations, and will be expected to perform experiments and collect and analyze data. Evaluation will consist of tests, quizzes, lab reports, and selected writing assignments.
